Heart Screening for youth age grade players

Screening for Youth aged grade players (over 14)

Screening opportunities for all Youth players (boys and girls) over 14 usually occur twice per season.  Players must be aged 14 or above on the day of screening to be eligible.

Communication on screening dates will be done through the age group WhatApps.

Cardiac screening is a simple health check designed to make sure your heart is safe for intense sport. A doctor or trained clinician will usually begin by asking a few questions about your health, any symptoms (such as fainting, chest pain, or unusual breathlessness), and whether anyone in your family has had heart problems at a young age. They will also do a quick physical examination, listening to your heart and checking your blood pressure. Screenings include an electrocardiogram (ECG), a painless test where small sensors are placed on your chest to record the electrical activity of your heart.

The whole process usually takes only a few minutes and can help detect rare heart conditions that might put athletes at risk during strenuous  exercise. If anything unusual is found, it doesn’t necessarily mean there is a problem, but you may be referred for further tests to make sure it is safe for you to keep playing sport.
